Biking in Taiwan

Biking is something that you are eventually going to pick up when in Taiwan.

Bikes are so prevalent in Taiwan—it's everywhere! People use it on a daily basis, and there are many bike paths for bikers to use. Since biking is so popular, there is also a convenient biking rental system in Taiwan. This system is called the uBike, and it is super easy to get signed up. The easiest way is by using an Easy Card and getting the uBike mobile app. There are two versions of the mobile app and two generations of bikes, but I recommend just sticking with the latest generations of both as they are more common in Taipei. Once you get your EasyCard hooked up to an account on the uBike app and finish signing up for insurance (at no cost to you), then you are good to go.

Navigating the uBike mobile app is quite easy. It'll tell you where the stations are, how many bikes are available, and how many parking docks are available. Choose a station, and when you get there, choose a bike! Tap on the rental button through the IC card (the button on the right) and tap your Easy Card. Then pull the bike out of the dock and start riding. As of very recently, the first 30 minutes of biking are free, and the prices of the rental aren't crazy, so it is a pretty affordable activity. If you ever need to lock your bike in place while you are still renting, just make sure to use the lock provided (usually found in the basket) and have your card ready. Once you are done biking, find a dock and park your bike. Have your Easy Card ready to tap out of the system.

a super easy and super fun activity that is accessible nearly everywhere in the city. A great thing about Taipei is the bike paths! My favorite is biking along the Tamsui River. Happy biking!
